Description:

From Clay County Fair Website:

It's been said that the Clay County Fair was started back in 1931 by a group of citizens in Clay County who realized the value of such an organization to the agriculture interests of the county, but the post card above has recently been determined to have been dated back in 1910. Here you can see the townspeople headed to the Fair. They had nothing to start with but and idea and a will to work. The premiums were small and the departments were few. A brush arbor sufficed where buildings are used today and their fences were made of rope. Public donation and the cooperation of the farms and businessmen of the county made the first few fairs possible.

From the humble beginnings, Clay County Fair has grown into one of the outstanding county fairs in Arkansas. The buildings and grounds have a value of over $200,000.00

The growth of the Fair was not without setbacks, short crop years, depression and the curse of all fairs, rainy Saturdays. This caused some of the fairs to be unprofitable, but these years were balanced by the bountiful crops and large crowds during most of the years.

The Fair was held on the present picnic grounds from 1930 to 1945. Clay County boasted of having one of the finest race tracks and people came from everywhere especially to attend the races.

The Fair Association encourages your attendance and welcomes your cooperation in making this year's Fair the greatest on record.
