| Description: | DOUG DAWSON, JUROR Doug Dawson was born in Oak Park, Ill. He attended Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn. and Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. He taught science and art for the Denver Public schools for 6 years. He has taught art for Colorado Institute of Art, Colorado Christian University, and The Art Students League of Denver. He is a founding board member for The Art Students League of Denver, where he presently teaches a Plein Air class. He teaches 8 to 10 workshops around the country each year. Doug Dawson has received numerous awards from many art organizations. To honor his achievements, he was given the title of Master Pastelist by the Pastel Society of America (NY, NY) in 1985 and awarded the title of Master Circle by the International Association of Pastel Societies in 2005 (California). 2009 CALENDAR September 5th - Digital Entry Deadline (postmarked or delivered) November 3 - Acceptance Notifications mailed November 23 - Deadline for shipped entries December 3rd Hand-delivered entries accepted from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. December 4 - Show opens. December 4 - 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Opening Reception and Award Ceremony (Juror will be present). January 10 - Show closes. January 11 - 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. Pick up hand delivered entries January 12 - Shipped entries returned if not sold. SALES All entries must be for sale. Sale price listed on entry form cannot be changed. APS will retain 20% of any and all sales. If an entry is sold between acceptance and opening of the show, it must be withdrawn from the show. Entry fee will not be refunded. ELIGIBILITY Open to all artists over the age of 18. Entries must be at least 80% soft pastel. Entries must be original, unpublished and executed within the last three years. Paintings that have won an award at a national level exhibition are not eligible. Works produced in a class, workshop or under another artists supervision are not eligible. Accepted works may be refused if digital image does not accurately represent work. APS reserves the right to refuse any work submitted. Entries must be suitably framed under glass or Plexiglas and ready to hang with wire hangers (saw tooth hangers are not allowed). Framed works the glass or Plexiglas size may not exceed a combined height and width of 76 (example: 22 x 28=50 or 22 x 36= 58). Incomplete entry forms or improperly marked CDs will be disqualified. All accepted works must remain hanging for the duration of the exhibit. ENTRY Artist may submit up to two (2) pieces of work. Works will be juried by digital images. File format must be .jpg. Only images entered should be on CD. Individual file size should be between 300kb and 5 mg. Resolution should be 300 dpi. The file name should be artists last name_first initial_entry number (ex: davis_r_1). Label CD with name and e-mail address. CDs will not be returned. Each CD must be accompanied by a completed entry form and entry fee. Fee is $35 for non-APS members and $30 for APS members for up to two (2) paintings. DELIVERY AND RETURN OF ACCEPTED ENTRIES Shipped entries must be received between November 3rd and November 23rd. Shipped entries should be sent prepaid in reusable crates with a PREPAID RETURN shipping label. Insure for your own protection. Shipping instructions, including handling fees and return shipping information, will be sent upon notification of acceptance. Shipped entries will be packaged and returned no later than January 12th. Pick up hand-delivered entries January 11th between 3 and 5 p.m. LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY Artwork will be handled with all possible care. However, the Arkansas Pastel Society, Arkansas Art Center, nor any member of APS will be held responsible for any loss or damage. APS recommends that Plexiglas be used, especially for works that will be shipped. Glass is used at artists risk. Artists will be responsible for repairs for of artwork damaged in shipping (Ex.: broken glass, scratched plexiglass, excessive pastel dust or dirty mat). When the painting is received, the artist will be contacted with the price of repairs. If artist does not wish to repair the painting it may be withdrawn from show. Entry fee will not be returned. Entering this exhibition shall constitute understanding and agreement on the part of the artist with the conditions stated. APS suggests that artists carry separate insurance.
